FRIDAY'S COUNTDOWN ATTACK IRAN

In today's daily update on the slow march to war we find an unusual source to scare you into believing the Iranian WMD argument.

But first: Iran Must Get Ready to Repel a Nuclear Attack: from globalresearch.ca.

And a flashback to November last year and a CIA report on "No Proof" of Iranian Nukes: from bbc.co.uk

Aviation Week have an "Exclusive" and "Breaking News" : IRAN SET TO TRY SPACE

Yes folks not only are they developing the bomb with help of the North Koreans, now those Red Bastards are handing over their rocket technology as well, to deliver those nukes straight into Tel Aviv.

You'd think everyone would be all over this latest development, but in the propaganda war, beating the drum of war, it's always good to put a feeler out first to see if people will buy it, especially in the New World Internet Order.

So here we present Friday's "Countdown Attack Iran"

The move toward an independent space launch capacity is likely to ratchet up concern in the U.S. and Europe about Iran's strategic capabilities and intents. Orbiting its own satellite would send a powerful message throughout the Muslim world about the Shiite regime in Tehran.

U.S. agencies believe the launcher to be a derivation of the 800-1,000-mi. range Shahab 3 missile. A Shahab 3 fired from central Iran could strike anywhere in Israel, Saudi Arabia, the entire Persian Gulf region and as far west as southern Turkey.

There are concerns in the West that space launch upgrades, however, could eventually create an Iranian intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) with a range of nearly 2,500 mi., giving Tehran the ability to strike as far as central Europe, well into Russia and even China and India. full story

Thank god or is that Allah, that it won't get all the way to the USA, which is strange cos last time I checked an ICBM means a missile can reach any target anywhere in the world.

You can see the game plan here, scare the Europeans, the North Korea Bomb story also was from an European source. The Neo-con's know for their next war they will need support from Europe and Nato, to shut up those peace nut hippies in congress now.

If you have missed all the "surge" towards ATTACK IRAN. Here is a summary:

The positioning of a second aircraft carrier group in the Gulf, along with naming Adm. William Fallon of the Navy to replace Army Gen. John Abizaid as head of Central Command.
This array of deadly equipment and this command change are hardly relevant for fighting Iraqi insurgents in the streets of Baghdad or Falluja.

A package of onerous sanctions on Iran, demanded by Washington and passed by the United Nations Security Council, appears to be part of the war preparations, just as past U.N. resolutions against Iraq served to create a war climate.

President George W. Bush’s speech on Jan. 10 outlining his new strategy for Iraq directly threatened both Syria and Iran. Bush accused both countries of not doing enough to block insurgents from crossing into Iraq and accused them of funneling arms and fighters to aid the insurgency.

Almost immediately after Bush’s speech, the first act of his new escalation took place. It was the provocative storming of an Iranian consular office and the seizure of diplomatic officials in the Iraqi city of Erbil. In international law any attack on diplomats or their offices is considered an act of war.

The following day, rather than pass the blame to lower officials, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice escalated the offensive, goading Iran by declaring that the decision came directly from the president.

The Kuwait-based daily Arab Times on Jan. 14 released a report that the U.S. military plans a military strike on Iran before April 2007.

The report, written by Editor-in-chief Ahmed al-Jarallah, said that the attack on Iran would target its oil installations and nuclear facilities and be launched from U.S. ships, while Patriot missiles would supposedly guard all Arab countries in the Gulf.

The Jan. 15 Guardian newspaper in London described the war plans that Central Command has developed. The Pentagon has plans to strike more than 10,000 targets in the first day of a war. “It won’t be limited to attacks on a few weapons factories,” says the Guardian. Central Command and Strategic Command planners have been identifying targets, assessing weapon loads and working on logistics for an attack for more than a year.

Australia becomes a Parody

I've figured it out, Australia Day is a parody much along the lines of our other great parodies, it's just one the whole country can join in on, I give you this photo gallery to consider the other greats.

Its the 4th of July In Terra Australis

Australia Day, i remeber my shock only 5 or 6 years ago when on the 26th of January I saw someone driving around the streets of one of our largest cities with a Australian Flag waving from the radio antenna on their car. I thought to myself what a strange site, and then forgot it.

Now when I'm driving around on Australia Day without one on my car, I feel like the odd one out. I thought maybe it's my memory, maybe Australian's had always acted in this extremely American style of patriotism on the day a bunch of convicts arrived at the shore of Botany Bay, to decided it actually wasn't as nice as Captain Cook had said it was, and actually traveled up the coast a bit to find a much nicer harbor only 20 km away, and thank god they did, can you imagine Sydney in Botany Bay, it would look like Melbourne.

To me we had been a nation that considered Australia Day just another public holiday, and the patriotic Australian and New Zealander came out together on ANZAC Day with the flag appropriately waved at our ex-service men who had fought bravely in primarily European and America's wars.

I was warmed to read a blog entry on news.com.au, that actually echoed my own feelings about what Australia Day really means to Australian's, and its a lot more healthier than the image being put forward by our Nations media and politicians.

Until quite recently, Australia Day was a very low-key public holiday. Most people were just grateful for one last day off to hit the beach before normal business resumed for another 11 months. A few politicians made silly speeches but no normal person paid any attention.

Those were the days, and they weren’t so long ago, when the sight of a professional Australian at a rugby test trying to get the crowd to sing along to ‘Waltzing Matilda’ would have been met with great hilarity, not to mention a shower of pie crusts and beer cans.

I believe the lack of ‘look at us we’re Australian we’re shit hot’ spirit back then reflected much healthier Australian values than the childish jingoism that contemporary white Australia seems to find so appealing. by Ken_L at blogs.news.com.au

Google Inc. (USA) is a proud Australian too, changing their icon on google.com.au to celebrate the national day, even if it does look like they just borrowed the same one used on American Independence Day. Actually Google has in the past had a Kangaroo flying the Aussie Flag on Australian Day, but since the debate on the flag I guess the "do no harm" company decided fireworks were a safer option.

Bush Logic : Why the Surge Will Work

The inner workings of the commander in chief reveled in a conversation between the US house speaker and the US President, this would be funny if it wasn't so serious:

In an interview, House Leader Pelosi said she was puzzled by what she considered the president's lack of explanation for his confidence in the new "surge" of 21,500 U.S. troops that he has presented as the center piece of a new "way forward" for U.S. forces in Iraq.

"He's tried this two times — it's failed twice," the California Democrat said. "I asked him at the White House, 'Mr. President, why do you think this time it's going to work?' And he said, 'Because I told them it had to.' " full story

Ahh and did God speak to you before you told "them"!.

RF Radiation is bad on the brain: A No Brainer

Radio Frequency Radiation is scary stuff, talk to any Broadcast Engineer who works with the High Powered Transmitters that offload our radio and television stations. Often they will shut down an entire tower switching services to a redundant tower to carry out any transmission work that needs doing, rather than risk exposure and potential burning,

These frequencies are much lower than those used by most mobile phones, which means they are safer frequencies to our bodies cells. Of course the power is far less, but the same Engineers who work on Powerful transmitters have expressed concerned that any direct exposure to RF will damage human tissue. Its not quite like sticking your head in a microwave oven, but pretty close.

Well no surprise that a study has discovered mobile phones can be dangerous, anyone with that hot feeling near their ear after using a phone for an extended period can testify there is just a little cooking going on.

A large-scale study found that those who had regularly used mobiles for longer than 10 years were almost 40 per cent more likely to develop nervous system tumours called gliomas near to where they hold their phones.

The new research, to be published later this year in the International Journal of Cancer, is the second study to suggest increased risks of specific types of brain tumours in regions close to where mobile phone emissions enter the head.

However, a number of other studies has found no increased health risks associated with mobile phone use. full story

No mention of the fact mobile phones can also be damaging to your wealth as well. Young people in contracts finding themselves in a financial hole using the things before any health effects kick in. Still excited about the "Iphone"!

Water Wars

Over the reign of the current Australian regime a trend has emerged of moving all important policy decisions to the Federal Government away from the states. Today the PM has announced a 10 Billion Dollar take over of the nations water supply.

The 10-point plan includes the biggest modernisation of irrigation infrastructure in Australia's history, pumping almost $6 billion into improving structures such as pipes and channels in a project aimed at saving 3000 gigalitres of water a year.

Other investments include $1.5 billion to boost water efficiency on farms, and $3 billion to address over-allocation of water in the drought-ravaged Murray-Darling Basin.

The Government also plans to take control of the ailing river system, which is now jointly managed by NSW, Victoria, South Australia and Queensland. full story

A lukewarm response from the East Coast states, with the most affected state South Australia rejecting the plan out right. South Australia and its capital Adelaide rely almost solely on the River Murray for its water supply, and the state is concerned it could end up being on the wrong end of the political stick (having the smallest mainland state population) when water is at its scarcest.

Although Federal Labor supports the plan to avoid it becoming a wedge issue in this years Federal Election, the states are understandably nervous about handing control to the Federal Government. IR laws have been hijacked out of state control in the last 12 months as well, and the final legislation their wasn't on par with Labors plans for Australia.

Updated: Big Day Out Underlines the Australian Police State

The Big Day Out in Sydney has been going for hours, and kiddies the NSW Government is encouraging you to bring your flags, and make sure you insult anyone without one that they are being "UnAustralian"

But what's even more "UnAustralian" than trying to bust kids with a bit of pot in their pocket. The NSW Police contuine their policy of getting kids into the legal system as young as possiable.

The Big Day Out fans who travelled by train were met by a line of police and sniffer dogs at Olympic Park railway station.

Ashfield crime manager Chief Inspector Tony Cooke said a number of fans had been arrested outside the Sydney venue for disorderly conduct and drugs had been seized.

Insp Cooke said the dogs had detected 70 people carrying drugs.

Fifty people were issued with court attendance notices to attend Burwood Local Court in the coming weeks. The remaining 20 were released without charge.

Protesters calling for the release of Australian terror suspect David Hicks were also asked by police to leave the area.full story

Australian motorists may ask while the price per barrel for crude is going down, Wednesday saw this strange event occur.

Minutes after Australia's consumer watchdog declared oil companies had done the right thing by cutting the cost of petrol to appropriate levels, they thumbed their noses at motorists by ratcheting bowser prices up 12c yesterday.

The extraordinary increase was ordered despite international oil prices hardly fluctuating in the past week.

Industry experts last night slammed the oil barons' greedy move as an "unjustified slap in the face for drivers".

And they warned prices may rise even further today - as high as $1.20. full story

N Korea and Iran Nuke Buddies

And to prove it the UK's Daily Telegraph have photos!

Are you convinced yet.

How About the Headline

N Korea helping Iran with nuclear testing

That got your attention, check out the actual words though and you'll see it says helping with nuclear testing, last time I checked Iran didn't deny a Nuclear program just they aren't making bombs, and read the previous article to confirm that unlike North Korea, Iran is still allowing inspections of it' nuclear facilities.

But don't let that stop the paper from sourcing an anonymous Western source to blow the whole deal wild open.

A senior European defence official told The Daily Telegraph that North Korea had invited a team of Iranian nuclear scientists to study the results of last October's underground test to assist Teheran's preparations to conduct its own — possibly by the end of this year.

There were unconfirmed reports at the time of the Korean firing that an Iranian team was present. Iranian military advisers regularly visit North Korea to participate in missile tests.

Now the long-standing military co-operation between the countries has been extended to nuclear issues.full beatup here

Now note its an European Official, you might think that means's they are not British or American, but the fact we have NATO means this is a NATO source (the EU don't have a Military) so while the "European" official distance's the information from the now discredited American Intelligence machine, I doubt it actually is.

Also does anyone actually think the American's wouldn't be screaming this from the podium at the White House if it was actually provable. Since only one Newspaper in the entire world has stepped up to the plate on this story, I think we should wait until its said in a verifiable way, like from a printable source before we get carried away and actually believe what the Daily Telegraph report.

In Australian ninemsn has bitten, but is a little shy, attributing the report to the paper, nervous like many other editors to report such a unprovable assertion without a little more proof. Do we need to remind you of the Niger Uranium story on the run up to Iraq II.

I like information from the horses mouth, this from Iran

In order to find a solution to the nuclear impasse and avoid sanctions, Tehran is studying a propose creation of an international consortium for the production of nuclear fuel for Iran’s coming nuclear plants.

“Such a consortium, constructed possibly somewhere on an Iranian island on the Persian Gulf would ease international concern that the fuel could be diverted for military use, as it would be under the double inspections and controls of the IAEA and the participants, ie, GB, Germany, France, China, Russia, the US and others if interested. full story

Wow verifiable information, that sounds sane, and actually offers a solution to the worlds concerns, and is consistent with what the country has been saying all along.

There is no doubt a political battle going on in Iran right now, between an out of control President provoking a bad International reaction, and moderates in the same Government interested in finding solutions rather than conflict, sounds like what's happening in the US.

Hey Back Off! The Baiting of Iran Contuines

Only hours ago we uncovered thanks to the LA Times that Iran has not been as far as the Military Guys on the front line can tell, actually sticking their noses into Iraq's Civil War. However don't let the truth get in the way of the "New Way Forward", let's bait them again, see if they bite.

This bit of trash is actually getting more eye space than the LA Times story.

A second U.S. aircraft carrier strike group now steaming toward the Middle East is Washington’s way of warning Iran to back down in its attempts to dominate the region, a top U.S. diplomat said here Tuesday.

Nicholas Burns, U.S. undersecretary of state for political affairs, ruled out direct negotiations with Iran and said a rapprochement between Washington and Tehran was “not possible” until Iran halts uranium enrichment. full story

Oh its not Iran's involvement in Iraq, it's the old WMD argument, do you think they'll fall for that one again. Haha

Russia is standing behind Iran in all this madness, and last time I checked they did have WMD's

Russia has completed a contract to sell some 30 air defence missile systems to Iran, a senior official has said.

The head of the state-run weapons exporter Rosoboronexport was quoted by Russian media as saying that delivery was completed at the end of last year.

The deal - worth $700m (£380m) and signed last year - has angered the US and Israel who say Iran may use the missiles to attack its neighbours. full story

Do you think they might want the missiles to defend against all of the U.S. aircraft carrier strike groups that are off their coast. Nah! Why would they feel threatened.

By the way Iran is still co-operating with the IAEA, the U.N. nuclear watchdog despite the impression implied at the moment that they have locked down their nuclear facilities. In a report out today from Reuters.

Iran said on Tuesday it was still cooperating with the IAEA, the U.N. nuclear watchdog, despite announcing a day earlier that it was barring 38 inspectors from working in the country.

Iran, accused by the West of seeking atomic bombs but insisting its plans are peaceful, barred the inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency after parliament demanded retaliation for U.N. sanctions imposed on Tehran last month.

The IAEA said this would not handicap its monitoring of a plant where Iran plans soon to expand its output of nuclear fuel from an experimental to an industrial-scale level in defiance of the U.N. Security Council resolution. full story

UPDATE: This story is getting stinky. In fact Raw Story has the full picture of what smells like propaganda. Why is this important, well before the US invaded Iraq there were claims they kicked out the UN Inspectors, which wasn't true as it turned out. Is the same shifty being played again.

After an inquiry by RAW STORY, the Associated Press' Director of Corporate Communications Jack Stokes said they could not reach the spokeswoman for the International Atomic Energy Agency after running a story asserting that Iran had barred 38 IAEA inspectors.

"IAEA spokeswoman Melissa Fleming and other agency officials did not immediately return after-hours calls from The Associated Press," AP reporter NASSER KARIMI wrote.

Raw Story's Larisa Alexandrovna received comment from the agency shortly after the story broke this morning. AP's original article didn't indicate if they'd called the IAEA about Iran's claims before filing with the headline, "Iran bars 38 IAEA nuclear inspectors."

Stokes did not say why the AP called the agency after hours. full story

They Call This News!

Not sure what they are smoking at the New York Post, usually trying to help Bush. Not quite sure how saying "911 II" is coming from the very country Bush Invaded is going to help in the debate about Iraq, it almost seems like a free kick to the opposition.

And since the mentailty of your average New York Post Reader is to skip the detail and look at the pictures this looks like an extremely stupid front page for a pro-war, pro-Bush Newspaper.

The detail is far less intresting, apart from exposing that the War in Iraq had led to an opening for Islamic Terrorism that wasn't there under the previous adminstration, the guy they hung last year. But since many American's still think that Iraq had something to do with 911 mark I, they might just buy this bs.

Al Qaeda terrorists in Iraq planned to sneak into the United States with student visas and carry out a devastating new round of 9/11-style attacks, it was disclosed last night.

Details of the frightening copycat plot were discovered in documents found about six months ago when coalition forces raided an insurgent hideout in Iraq, ABC News reported.full story

Hardliners in X also appear split with many of X's former supporters now critical of him.

It is becoming clear that the green light has been given from the very top for open debate of President X's record in power.

Normally compliant newspaper editorials have suddenly started criticising his handling of the economy and his undiplomatic language.

All this suggests that many in the top echelons of power are beginning to realise that X's confrontational foreign policy carry a heavy cost for X's future.

But at this point there is no suggestion of removing the X, merely restraining him.

Bush address at inconvient time for Australian Audience

No problem, we know already what he's going to say (and we already have a picture from the future too), got to love it, everything is floated in public first so once it actually happens there are no surprises. So here is what he's going to say:

Health care: Bush will propose a tax deduction of $7,500 for individuals and $15,000 for families regardless of whether they buy their own health insurance or receive medical coverage at work.

Energy: Bush is expected to call for a sharp escalation of corn- based ethanol as a gasoline blend. He also may seek the power to raise fuel economy standards for passenger cars, probably as part of a plan to offer financial incentives for increasing alternative fuels.

Education: Bush will push for Congress to renew his education law, No Child Left Behind, which expires this year. The law pushes schools that receive federal poverty aid to show yearly progress or face sanctions, including allowing students to transfer or demand extra tutoring.

Bush will also push for an immigration strategy that includes more than tougher border security.

Meanwhile, bitter feelings over the war stand in the way of the principal goal of the speech A bipartisan agenda. (please no laughing at this point in the speech)

Without rehashing the Iraq speech he gave two weeks ago, Bush will defend his stand that Iraq is part of a war on terror that will make Americans safer. That contention will come during a foreign policy passage in which Bush will also tout U.S. humanitarian efforts abroad.

Oh and we know how the Democrats will react in the morning.

Congressional Democrats will drown out President Bush's speech with two themes: Sending more troops to Iraq is not a new strategy, and the president and his Republican allies are no longer solely in charge of national policy.

So there that should take you up to the end of Wednesday Night Australian Time in US Politics.

Of course some nutter trying to run for the NSW Parliament has counted the nutters in the NSW Liberal party by saying they will put a ban, on the ban, on the banning of Flags.

No mention yet if burning the flag will be included in the proposed ban on banning flags, but I guess burning is banning since once the flag is burnt it is unavailable to be viewed which would effectively mean it is banned.

A NSW Coalition government would outlaw attempts to ban the Australian flag, boost penalties for desecrating national symbols and link funding for councils to an edict to fly the flag.

Making a point I guess that they can blow up their own satellite if its big enuff and in a predictable orbit above the Earth, apparently the American's proved the point in the 80's.

The American's of course seeing (possibly for the first time) the hypocrisy of complaining about using Space for Warfare , since they announced they reserve the right to blow any adversaries Satellites if they want to, have instead complained about the mess left up there.

Howard's Reshuffle - Malcolm X on the stage; Flag waving Nuts rejoice.

A much anticipated reshuffle with little bang on the political stage, except for the second most popular Liberal PM Malcolm Turnbull promoted to the front bench. John Howard had little choice about this, and you can't see him truly welcoming Turnbull for two reasons, first he's almost as popular as Howard, secondly he's a Republican (not to be confused by our American readers as onside with Bush, it means he's offside with Her Majesty).

Slight name change for one Government Department too.

The PM also announced he would rename the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.

Damn and the outgoing Senator just ordered new letterhead, it's so expensive when the PM decides to take out his own personal distaste for the word "Multicultural" on an entire Federal Government department, which by the way has the reputation of being the worst department in the Commonweath. Is the name change a swipe at a policy of the Australian government since the days of the former Liberal PM Malcom Fraser, after all we got a whole TV network called SBS to promote the idea, and now it runs South Park, does that mean "Multiculturalism" is now dead in Howard's Australia.

"The whole purpose of immigration is to recruit more people to the broader Australian family,'' Mr Howard said. full story

Yes I guess it's "Your with us or against us" wrap yourself in the flag now!... now where have I heard that before! Thank god SBS went fully commercial just in time, otherwise we may be denied in Australia free-to-air South Park and Jon Stewart.

Iran fueling Iraq Violence "BS" - LA Times

Keep this report in mind as Bush speaks later today, source US Military on the ground near the Iranian border. Fears that bush is really pushing for a confrontation with Iran are growing after it was confirmed he did order the arrest of Iranian diplomats in Northern Iraq and ordering another Aircraft Carrier into the Gulf. The Message is not popular on Capitol Hill as Democrats have warned the commander as chimp that they need their authorization to go to war.

If there is anywhere Iran could easily stir up trouble in Iraq, it would be in Diyala, a rugged province along the border between the two nations.

The combination of Sunni Arab militants believed to be affiliated with Al Qaeda and Shiite Muslim militiamen with ties to Iran has fueled waves of sectarian and political violence here. The province is bisected by long-traveled routes leading from Iran to Baghdad and Shiite holy cities farther south in Iraq.

But even here, evidence of Iranian involvement in Iraq's troubles is limited. U.S. troops have found mortars and antitank mines with Iranian markings dated 2006, said U.S. Army Col. David W. Sutherland, who oversees the province. But there has been little sign of more advanced weaponry crossing the border, and no Iranian agents have been found.full story

However, views of the US actions in the North Korean nuclear issues are more mixed, with 48 percent disapproving and 43 percent approving of US actions in this case. In the tape, apparently intercepted by US-based terrorism think-tank Site, Ayman al-Zawahiri challenged Mr Bush to send "the entire army" to Iraq.

The Iraqi insurgents would "bury 10 armies like yours", he said. full story

Hicks Update : Plea Bargain now on the Table

Let me just remind you that the lead military prosecutor was only on ABC radio 18 hours ago saying what a tight case the US had against Hicks. You'll remember the story I used the word BS (well that is actually a contraction) when talking about the whole process.

Well fresh for the Friday papers in Australia (and a heated call between Bush & Howard yesterday) a nasty Plea Bargain is on the table, and I guess no one could blame Hicks for going for it since if he doesn't they'll let him rot there for another five years.

DAVID Hicks could be home before the end of the year if he accepts a plea bargain that takes into account his five years in jail.

Intense lobbying in Washington by the Howard Government on the case of the terror suspect could pay off, with expectations growing that he could be back before the federal election.

Now isn't the Federal Election reference a dead give away to the real politics going on here.

US prosecutor Colonel Morris Davis has told The Australian that the option of Hicks returning home this year was a "possibility" and government sources indicated they expected the case would be resolved "one way or another" within six months.

Yes by six months the brainwashing will be complete! Over 2 years ago it was reported that his mental health was in a bad state. old bbc story

There is also an agreement between Canberra and Washington that Hicks could serve out a sentence in Australia. The Prime Minister said yesterday the Government was "unhappy that he's been held for so long without trial".

Well we would prefer that to the American Hell Hole. This is not a new idea, it was rasied last year in May and NOTHING happened. old bbc story

"I have made it clear and the Attorney-General has made it clear that he cannot be held indefinitely in detention," Mr Howard said.

Fucking hell they just worked that was inhumane, how about 5 YEARS!!!! isn't that enough!

Hicks's father, Terry, said he did not believe his son would accept a deal. "Why should he take a plea bargain for something he may not have done," he said.

Liberal MP Malcolm Turnbull said that regardless of Hicks's alleged crimes, he had been denied justice. "Five years awaiting trial is too long," he said. full story

Baiting Iran

It didn't take long after the Bush Speech (which has almost universally been condemned at home and abroad) for the first real attack in the new war on Iran. Just a quick reminder about what the White House said about Iran and Syria

“Iran and Syria...are allowing terrorists and insurgents to use their territory to move in and out of Iraq. Iran is providing material support for attacks on American troops. We will disrupt the attacks on our forces. We'll interrupt the flow of support from Iran and Syria. And we will seek out and destroy the networks providing advanced weaponry and training to our enemies in Iraq. “

And now News from the BBC.

US forces have stormed an Iranian consulate in the northern Iraqi town of Irbil and seized five members of staff.

The troops raided the building at about 0300, taking away computers and papers, according to Kurdish media and senior local officials.

The US military had no immediate comment on the raid, which comes amid high tension between Iran and the US.

The Bush administration accuses Iran of helping fuel violence in Iraq, as well as trying to develop nuclear weapons. full story

BAIT BAIT BAIT, one day they might just bite.

We dont even pretend it isn't spin anymore

Or a Chicago Post reporter is not going to be invited back to the White House, just published, the inside brief given to reporters "so they can understand the presidents address tonight", code for getting the spin right and consistent across the entire US media. This is a fascinating read for any one interested in how disconnected from the real world the White House is. full story

Hicks case as weak as piss.

Today Australia's most famous political prisoner David Hicks indirectly came under public attack by the chief military prosecutor in the US. A strange act that only happens in barbaric countries where the prosecution is allowed to make public comments, in Australia and other more developed countries it would be considered prejudicial and the prosecutor could find themselves in jail rather than the person their accusing.

Well America's bravest man (pictured) Major Michael Mori thinks he knows why the Colonel made such an outrages attack First what the Colonel said on ABC radio:

"I hope the Australian people aren't so gullible as to step in everything that Major Mori has been spreading,''

Actually mate we're not a gullible to take you on face value. The Colonel went on to say.

"And if they do step in it, they need to wipe their feet before they go into the house, because we contend a lot of the evidence has been half-truths.'' full transcript of iv

I must admit the dog poo metaphor appeals to me, but only when describing the US "Justice" system and it's treatment of David Hicks, rather than words coming out of his lawyers mouth. We are very lucky to have people as honest and brave as Major Mori.

The FACTS something the US Government is short on are this.

The US contend:

■ Attended advanced al-Qaeda training camps
■ Associated with senior al-Qaeda leaders after 9/11
Issued with weapons to fight US troops in Afghanistan
■ Carried out surveillance on US and other international embassies

But Two of those charges were thrown out by a "Republican" Supreme Court and the other one was dropped from the new "Military Commission Act" written by the Bush Administration itself.

We are all really waiting to see the fresh charges laid against David Hicks but they are not coming forward, even Howard is getting frustrated with this whole pointless fiasco. howard talks

Howard's Attorney General being a little weaker on this point.

The Federal Opposition has called for Mr Hicks to be granted bail and released but Mr Ruddock says that is an issue for the US.

"The idea that Mr Hicks should be released and then expected, released to Australia and be placed under a control order and then at some later date returned to the United States seems to me to be a little naive," he said.

Why the fuck not! We have an extradition agreement with the United States. UMM that's right under International Law returning him would be a breach of the Geneva Conventions "Handing a prisoner of war to his enemies". Who would ever think the USA's best friend in the Pacific could be considered an enemy, what strange times we live in for sure.

Anyway Major Mori responded to the attack, even though we don't think he should have bothered, everyone knows the military commissions as BS.

"I'm very disappointed they would feel that desperate that they would attack me personally, they have stooped to a new low,'' Major Mori said.

"They are desperate and their case is weak. And when their case is weak, they often resort to attacking the defence attorney.

"They want to distract people from the real issue, which is: is David going to get a fair trial?''

Also this:

Hicks' father, Terry Hicks, said Col Davis' comments were evidence of panic.

"For the head of the military commissions to come out and attack people personally, I think it's clutching at straws, panic,'' he said.

Labor's legal affairs spokesman Kelvin Thomson said Col Davis' comments hurt Hicks' chance of a fair trial. full story

Enough said, the empire is crumbling under the weight of it's own crimes.

Surge to Armageddon

Not that we had to wait for the official word from the White house but the “surge” (a spin word for increase in troop numbers) is on. And while its hold the course from the Australian Government and no announcement of more troops from our country, it shows just how little modern democracy actually reflects the wants of the population.

Case 1 “Australia's Deployment”

The reaction from the Bush's back sided pimple was expected.

"The Government supports the new approach outlined by President Bush,'' Mr Howard said in Sydney shortly after the President's address.

He said Mr Bush's announcement would have no impact on Australia's troops in Iraq and he had no plans on sending more forces.

"There is no direct implication for Australian forces in Iraq,'' Mr Howard said.

"We have an appropriately sized force and one that can be maintained.''full story

Almost ¾ of Australians were against any involvement in the Iraq war right from the start. The biggest anti-war protests in Australia's History took place (along side the largest worldwide protests), but understandably to a degree our leaders saw “the alliance and its nuclear deterrent” as more important than the wishes of the “misguided (I'm sure the word stupid was used at some point) masses. Sorry folks you're smart enough to vote us in, but not smart enough to decide military policy, thats the NOA (National Office of Assessments) Job. Oh hold on THEY were against our involvement too! NOA officers publicly questioning American's “intelligence” and fearing an Australian attack may be a war crime.

So Australian's who protested, don't feel so bad, our political leaders also think our intelligence agencies are just a stupid as you. Of course the rest is history, and good for Howard so far, no “official” war dead in Iraq, although there are ways to hide deaths from the population, wait 30 years and it will be in the cabinet documents.

As a side note Blair couldn't even bring himself to make a comment leaving it up to his Foreign Secretary to make a half-arsed statement as if Britain isn't really involved.

Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett has welcomed US plans to send more than 20,000 troops to Iraq, but said the UK has no plans to do the same.

Any new friends for Bush?

Case 2 “Bush/Cain Surge”

The President's speech writers put on a A++ effort of spin into his address. However he can't get around the most bloody obvious question why it took him so long to acknowledge just how bad things were in Baghdad. It's the second week of 2007 dumbarse. Of course it was timed to come after Saddam's hanging, which unfortunately for the President was botched right up (those damn new phone's with camera's).

A writer on Daily Kos got it right when he said this

I have called it wrong each and every time.

I said it was because of WMD. It was not.

I said we'd be greeted as liberators. We were not.

I said Mission Accomplished. It was not.

I said no need for additional troops (a few years ago). I was wrong.

I said it'd be short, no need for planning what'd happen afterwards. I was SO wrong.

Now, I'm asking you to trust me again.

Please do not.

The second crucial point (staying out of US domestic politics, because there is a lot of bi-partisan rubbish in the speech as well), is Bush has decided to stick the finger to his Dad's mates and gone in totally the other direction. You'll remember the Iraq Study Group suggested engagement with Iran and Syria, the President almost announced war against them instead, in case you missed it, it was one very telling paragraph.

By the way the British Government has actually said that the idea that Iran is “providing support for attacks in Iraq” is rubbish, they should know they are protecting those borders at the moment. It has also been pointed out by Iran they have no interest in an out of control neighbor, especially if it ends up in the hand's of the Sunni's. After all they went to war with them for almost ten years in the 1980s.

Here is the plan they expect to save Iraq. Adding about 30% extra troops (thats being generous), apparently they going to secure an area with a 30 mile radius (that's about the metropolitan size of Brisbane or Seattle) around Baghdad, and defend against incursions from Syria (military size approx: 600,000) and Iran (military size approx: 1,000,000 *both from the C.I.A. fact book).

He also cold faced states that if America does back down, and move out, then the country would full into the hand's of terrorists, and it will become a launching pad for attacks against the rest of the world. Is this the time to point out that no such problem existed before he launched his attack in 2003 and its his fault we are now facing this huge issue, plus one million Iraqi refugees. Any Americans still French bashing?

It's clear from all the military reaction, commanders on the ground in Iraq, and just damn commonsense that this plan has no chance of working, and will result in simply more US causalities, and a possible escalation of tensions between the US and Iraq and Syria, and that glint in his eye suggested that's just what the neo-cons want. As I said A++ for nice spin, but the substance was drivel. Man his speech writers are good, they might actually be able to polish a turd.

By the way if you expected the Democrats to step in and stop the madness now they have control of both houses in the US. Forget it, they are doing there typical jump up and down complain about the presidents policy, but in essence support it anyway. Tweedledee Tweedledumber.

Leaders of the new Democratic majority in Congress accused Mr Bush of failing to heed the lessons of his Republican party's crushing defeat in the November elections with his plan to send 20,000 more troops to Iraq. full story

So there is the bash Bush bit, but the substance!

The leaders, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, pledged to provide the 132,000 US troops in Iraq with the resources they need to continue their fight.

and the Democratic Solution that will never happen.

But they urged shifting the burden for security to the Iraqis nearly four years after the US invasion to topple Saddam Hussein, and "beginning the phased redeployment of our forces in the next four to six months".

Yes you can puke now!

As I have mention in previous articles, it would appear that the “surge” is actually a forward force for war with Iran, which would be absolutely nuts, but if your Bush there is only one way to go, and that is nuttier.

Lets examine the Neo-Con agenda 2007 and beyond, and discover it has little to do with the security of Iraq.

Bait Iran till they bite and attack US forces in someway, and if they don't and are too smart for that kind of thing (and all indications are they are), the old False Flag trick could be pulled again.

Even if the publics tolerance of these kind of tactic's is at an all time low, hey fuck em whats the difference between 80 and 100 percent against a lame duck president. This is of course no comfort to collation force members, their families and the their fellow citizens, but hey to hell with democracy as its suppose to be, Neo-fascism is here, and it ain't going to give up it's dream of imperialism. The people behind this plan and the president have no interest in stopping civil war in Iraq, they want the Oil, and Iran's too. And i forgot to mention my heart goes out to those in Iran' who surely will be nuked at some point, it is the only way to knock out those nuclear facilities that the administration is hell bent on knocking out.

The Full Text Of The Presidents Address

The alternative and more truth version click here.

Good evening. Tonight in Iraq, the armed forces of the United States are engaged in a struggle that will determine the direction of the global war on terror - and our safety here at home.

The new strategy I outline tonight will change America's course in Iraq, and help us succeed in the fight against terror.

When I addressed you just over a year ago, nearly 12 million Iraqis had cast their ballots for a unified and democratic nation.

The elections of 2005 were a stunning achievement.

We thought that these elections would bring the Iraqis together and that as we trained Iraqi security forces, we could accomplish our mission with fewer American troops.

But in 2006, the opposite happened. The violence in Iraq - particularly in Baghdad - overwhelmed the political gains the Iraqis had made.

The situation in Iraq is unacceptable to the American people - and it is unacceptable to me
Al-Qaeda terrorists and Sunni insurgents recognized the mortal danger that Iraq's elections posed for their cause. And they responded with outrageous acts of murder aimed at innocent Iraqis.

They blew up one of the holiest shrines in Shia Islam - the Golden Mosque of Samarra - in a calculated effort to provoke Iraq's Shia population to retaliate.

Their strategy worked. Radical Shia elements, some supported by Iran, formed death squads.

And the result was a vicious cycle of sectarian violence that continues today.

The situation in Iraq is unacceptable to the American people - and it is unacceptable to me.

Our troops in Iraq have fought bravely. They have done everything we have asked them to do.

Where mistakes have been made, the responsibility rests with me.

Need for change

It is clear that we need to change our strategy in Iraq.

So my national security team, military commanders, and diplomats conducted a comprehensive review.

We consulted Members of Congress from both parties, allies abroad, and distinguished outside experts.

We benefited from the thoughtful recommendations of the Iraq Study Group - a bipartisan panel led by former Secretary of State James Baker and former Congressman Lee Hamilton.

In our discussions, we all agreed that there is no magic formula for success in Iraq.

And one message came through loud and clear: Failure in Iraq would be a disaster for the United States.

The consequences of failure are clear: Radical Islamic extremists would grow in strength and gain new recruits.

They would be in a better position to topple moderate governments, create chaos in the region, and use oil revenues to fund their ambitions.

Iran would be emboldened in its pursuit of nuclear weapons.

Our enemies would have a safe haven from which to plan and launch attacks on the American people.

If the Iraqi government does not follow through on its promises, it will lose the support of the American people - and it will lose the support of the Iraqi people
On 11 September 2001, we saw what a refuge for extremists on the other side of the world could bring to the streets of our own cities.

For the safety of our people, America must succeed in Iraq.

The most urgent priority for success in Iraq is security, especially in Baghdad.

Eighty percent of Iraq's sectarian violence occurs within 30 miles (48km) of the capital.

This violence is splitting Baghdad into sectarian enclaves, and shaking the confidence of all Iraqis.

Only the Iraqis can end the sectarian violence and secure their people.

And their government has put forward an aggressive plan to do it.

Our past efforts to secure Baghdad failed for two principal reasons: There were not enough Iraqi and American troops to secure neighbourhoods that had been cleared of terrorists and insurgents.

And there were too many restrictions on the troops we did have.

Our military commanders reviewed the new Iraqi plan to ensure that it addressed these mistakes.

They report that it does. They also report that this plan can work.

'Strong commitment'

Let me explain the main elements of this effort: The Iraqi government will appoint a military commander and two deputy commanders for their capital.

The Iraqi government will deploy Iraqi Army and National Police brigades across Baghdad's nine districts.

When these forces are fully deployed, there will be 18 Iraqi Army and National Police brigades committed to this effort - along with local police.

These Iraqi forces will operate from local police stations - conducting patrols, setting up checkpoints, and going door-to-door to gain the trust of Baghdad residents.

This new strategy will not yield an immediate end to suicide bombings, assassinations, or IED [improvised explosive device] attacks
This is a strong commitment. But for it to succeed, our commanders say the Iraqis will need our help.

So America will change our strategy to help the Iraqis carry out their campaign to put down sectarian violence - and bring security to the people of Baghdad.

This will require increasing American force levels. So I have committed more than 20,000 additional American troops to Iraq.

The vast majority of them - five brigades - will be deployed to Baghdad.

These troops will work alongside Iraqi units and be embedded in their formations.

Our troops will have a well-defined mission: to help Iraqis clear and secure neighbourhoods, to help them protect the local population, and to help ensure that the Iraqi forces left behind are capable of providing the security that Baghdad needs.

Many listening tonight will ask why this effort will succeed when previous operations to secure Baghdad did not.

Here are the differences: In earlier operations, Iraqi and American forces cleared many neighbourhoods of terrorists and insurgents - but when our forces moved on to other targets, the killers returned.

This time, we will have the force levels we need to hold the areas that have been cleared.

In earlier operations, political and sectarian interference prevented Iraqi and American forces from going into neighbourhoods that are home to those fuelling the sectarian violence.

This time, Iraqi and American forces will have a green light to enter these neighbourhoods - and [Iraqi] Prime Minister [Nouri] Maliki has pledged that political or sectarian interference will not be tolerated.

I have made it clear to the prime minister and Iraq's other leaders that America's commitment is not open-ended.

If the Iraqi government does not follow through on its promises, it will lose the support of the American people - and it will lose the support of the Iraqi people.

Now is the time to act. The prime minister understands this.

Here is what he told his people just last week: "The Baghdad security plan will not provide a safe haven for any outlaws, regardless of [their] sectarian or political affiliation."

This new strategy will not yield an immediate end to suicide bombings, assassinations, or IED [improvised explosive device] attacks.

Our enemies in Iraq will make every effort to ensure that our television screens are filled with images of death and suffering.

Yet over time, we can expect to see Iraqi troops chasing down murderers, fewer brazen acts of terror, and growing trust and cooperation from Baghdad's residents.

When this happens, daily life will improve, Iraqis will gain confidence in their leaders, and the government will have the breathing space it needs to make progress in other critical areas.

Most of Iraq's Sunni and Shia want to live together in peace - and reducing the violence in Baghdad will help make reconciliation possible.

Benchmarks

A successful strategy for Iraq goes beyond military operations.

Ordinary Iraqi citizens must see that military operations are accompanied by visible improvements in their neighbourhoods and communities.

So America will hold the Iraqi government to the benchmarks it has announced.

To establish its authority, the Iraqi government plans to take responsibility for security in all of Iraq's provinces by November.

Al-Qaeda is still active in Iraq
To give every Iraqi citizen a stake in the country's economy, Iraq will pass legislation to share oil revenues among all Iraqis.

To show that it is committed to delivering a better life, the Iraqi government will spend $10bn (£5.2bn) of its own money on reconstruction and infrastructure projects that will create new jobs.

To empower local leaders, Iraqis plan to hold provincial elections later this year.

And to allow more Iraqis to re-enter their nation's political life, the government will reform de-Baathification laws - and establish a fair process for considering amendments to Iraq's constitution.

America will change our approach to help the Iraqi government as it works to meet these benchmarks.

In keeping with the recommendations of the Iraq Study Group, we will increase the embedding of American advisers in Iraqi Army units - and partner a Coalition brigade with every Iraqi Army division.

We will help the Iraqis build a larger and better-equipped Army - and we will accelerate the training of Iraqi forces, which remains the essential U.S. security mission in Iraq.

We will give our commanders and civilians greater flexibility to spend funds for economic assistance.

We will double the number of Provincial Reconstruction Teams.

These teams bring together military and civilian experts to help local Iraqi communities pursue reconciliation, strengthen moderates, and speed the transition to Iraqi self reliance.

And Secretary [of State Condoleezza] Rice will soon appoint a reconstruction coordinator in Baghdad to ensure better results for economic assistance being spent in Iraq.

As we make these changes, we will continue to pursue al-Qaeda and foreign fighters.

Al-Qaeda is still active in Iraq. Its home base is Anbar Province.

Al-Qaeda has helped make Anbar the most violent area of Iraq outside the capital.

A captured al-Qaeda document describes the terrorists' plan to infiltrate and seize control of the province.

This would bring al-Qaeda closer to its goals of taking down Iraq's democracy, building a radical Islamic empire, and launching new attacks on the United States at home and abroad.

Our military forces in Anbar are killing and capturing al Qaeda leaders - and protecting the local population.

Recently, local tribal leaders have begun to show their willingness to take on al-Qaeda.

As a result, our commanders believe we have an opportunity to deal a serious blow to the terrorists.

So I have given orders to increase American forces in Anbar Province by 4,000 troops.

These troops will work with Iraqi and tribal forces to step up the pressure on the terrorists.

America's men and women in uniform took away al-Qaeda's safe haven in Afghanistan - and we will not allow them to re-establish it in Iraq.

Iran and Syria

Succeeding in Iraq also requires defending its territorial integrity - and stabilizing the region in the face of the extremist challenge.

We will seek out and destroy the networks providing advanced weaponry and training to our enemies in Iraq
This begins with addressing Iran and Syria. These two regimes are allowing terrorists and insurgents to use their territory to move in and out of Iraq.

Iran is providing material support for attacks on American troops.

We will disrupt the attacks on our forces. We will interrupt the flow of support from Iran and Syria.

And we will seek out and destroy the networks providing advanced weaponry and training to our enemies in Iraq.

We are also taking other steps to bolster the security of Iraq and protect American interests in the Middle East.

I recently ordered the deployment of an additional carrier strike group to the region.

We will expand intelligence sharing - and deploy Patriot air defence systems to reassure our friends and allies.

We will work with the governments of Turkey and Iraq to help them resolve problems along their border.

And we will work with others to prevent Iran from gaining nuclear weapons and dominating the region.

We will use America's full diplomatic resources to rally support for Iraq from nations throughout the Middle East.

Countries like Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, and the Gulf States need to understand that an American defeat in Iraq would create a new sanctuary for extremists - and a strategic threat to their survival.

These nations have a stake in a successful Iraq that is at peace with its neighbours - and they must step up their support for Iraq's unity government.

We endorse the Iraqi government's call to finalize an International Compact that will bring new economic assistance in exchange for greater economic reform.

And on Friday, Secretary Rice will leave for the region - to build support for Iraq, and continue the urgent diplomacy required to help bring peace to the Middle East.

'Decisive conflict'

The challenge playing out across the broader Middle East is more than a military conflict.

It is the decisive ideological struggle of our time.

On one side are those who believe in freedom and moderation. On the other side are extremists who kill the innocent, and have declared their intention to destroy our way of life.

In the long run, the most realistic way to protect the American people is to provide a hopeful alternative to the hateful ideology of the enemy - by advancing liberty across a troubled region.

It is in the interests of the United States to stand with the brave men and women who are risking their lives to claim their freedom - and help them as they work to raise up just and hopeful societies across the Middle East.

From Afghanistan to Lebanon to the Palestinian Territories, millions of ordinary people are sick of the violence, and want a future of peace and opportunity for their children.

And they are looking at Iraq.

The year ahead will demand more patience, sacrifice, and resolve

They want to know: Will America withdraw and yield the future of that country to the extremists - or will we stand with the Iraqis who have made the choice for freedom?

The changes I have outlined tonight are aimed at ensuring the survival of a young democracy that is fighting for its life in a part of the world of enormous importance to American security.

Let me be clear: The terrorists and insurgents in Iraq are without conscience, and they will make the year ahead bloody and violent.

Even if our new strategy works exactly as planned, deadly acts of violence will continue - and we must expect more Iraqi and American casualties.

The question is whether our new strategy will bring us closer to success. I believe that it will.

Victory will not look like the ones our fathers and grandfathers achieved.

There will be no surrender ceremony on the deck of a battleship.

But victory in Iraq will bring something new in the Arab world - a functioning democracy that polices its territory, upholds the rule of law, respects fundamental human liberties, and answers to its people.

'Crucial moment'

A democratic Iraq will not be perfect. But it will be a country that fights terrorists instead of harbouring them - and it will help bring a future of peace and security for our children and grandchildren.

To step back now would force a collapse of the Iraqi government, tear that country apart
Our new approach comes after consultations with Congress about the different courses we could take in Iraq.

Many are concerned that the Iraqis are becoming too dependent on the United States - and therefore, our policy should focus on protecting Iraq's borders and hunting down al-Qaeda.

Their solution is to scale back America's efforts in Baghdad - or announce the phased withdrawal of our combat forces.

We carefully considered these proposals. And we concluded that to step back now would force a collapse of the Iraqi government, tear that country apart, and result in mass killings on an unimaginable scale.

Such a scenario would result in our troops being forced to stay in Iraq even longer, and confront an enemy that is even more lethal.

'Quiet sacrifice'

If we increase our support at this crucial moment, and help the Iraqis break the current cycle of violence, we can hasten the day our troops begin coming home.

In the days ahead, my national security team will fully brief Congress on our new strategy.

If Members have improvements that can be made, we will make them.

If circumstances change, we will adjust. Honourable people have different views, and they will voice their criticisms.

It is fair to hold our views up to scrutiny. And all involved have a responsibility to explain how the path they propose would be more likely to succeed.

Acting on the good advice of Senator Joe Lieberman and other key members of Congress, we will form a new, bipartisan working group that will help us come together across party lines to win the war on terror.

This group will meet regularly with me and my Administration, and it will help strengthen our relationship with Congress.

We can begin by working together to increase the size of the active Army and Marine Corps, so that America has the Armed Forces we need for the 21st Century.

We also need to examine ways to mobilize talented American civilians to deploy overseas - where they can help build democratic institutions in communities and nations recovering from war and tyranny.

In these dangerous times, the United States is blessed to have extraordinary and selfless men and women willing to step forward and defend us.

These young Americans understand that our cause in Iraq is noble and necessary - and that the advance of freedom is the calling of our time.

They serve far from their families, who make the quiet sacrifices of lonely holidays and empty chairs at the dinner table.

They have watched their comrades give their lives to ensure our liberty.

We mourn the loss of every fallen American - and we owe it to them to build a future worthy of their sacrifice.

'Trying times'

Fellow citizens: The year ahead will demand more patience, sacrifice, and resolve.

It can be tempting to think that America can put aside the burdens of freedom.

Yet times of testing reveal the character of a Nation.

And throughout our history, Americans have always defied the pessimists and seen our faith in freedom redeemed.

Now America is engaged in a new struggle that will set the course for a new century. We can and we will prevail.

We go forward with trust that the Author of Liberty will guide us through these trying hours. Thank you and good night.

ExxonMobil 'cultivated global warming doubt'

Look I have a personal distaste for the current Greenhouse debate. Not because of the science, but because it makes "the people, the problem". And the logical extension of the debate is lower living standards, especially for our friends in the so called "developing world".

The debate never centers on why our governments have actively worked against cleaner alternatives when they knew about the problem for over 20 years, and now it appears too late. If you have visited China or Thailand or India, you will see that Oil is crucial to their survival and they can barely afford it now.

The science however is overwhelming now, and the couple of decade delay to take action may well tip these countries back into inhumane poverty, while in the west we are well able to adjust.

So it's time for a good old fashion leaching, TEXAS style, just the way Bush likes (see web circulating video of his most recent death row inmate).

Our Victim:

ENERGY giant ExxonMobil borrowed tactics from the tobacco industry to raise doubt about climate change, spending $16 million on groups that question global warming, a science watchdog group said today.

"ExxonMobil has manufactured uncertainty about the human causes of global warming just as tobacco companies denied their product caused lung cancer," Alden Meyer of the Union of Concerned Scientists said at a telephone news conference releasing the report.

An ExxonMobil spokesman did not respond immediately to calls for comment. full story

That's cos we have em dragging behind our SUV on the way to the Town Hall!

Just Let Him Go you stupid Chimp!

David Hicks is in the news again, and what do our allies in Washington do, repeat the same rubbish they have been since he was detained FIVE YEARS AGO.

The outrage in Australia is growing so loud, that even Howard, the pimple on Bush's backside, is upset. The spin doesn't work on the American people anymore, and it never worked on the Australian public.

So with the call so loud it's being heard all the way on the other side of the world at the White House (or is the chimp in Texas at the moment), the PR Spin arseholes put this out today!

The US Office of Military Commissions ... confirmed today that Hicks would likely be in the first group of Guantanamo Bay inmates charged.

The charges are expected to be laid some time after January 15. full story

Hick's dad, your typical suburban warrior, who has now lost all faith in American and Australian Justice gives us the inside scoop into the process.

Terry Hicks ... said he feared US authorities were rushing the charges in the newly-created military commissions, which replace the tribunals, to keep the case out of the real court system.

"I still have a feeling that they (the American government) do not want him to appear at a proper court because the evidence against him is not strong," Mr Hicks said.

"It all seems that they want him to front up at the commissions as quickly as possible.

"We have to wait and see - we are in a waiting game."

Hicks' lawyers have lodged action in the Federal Court in Sydney accusing the Australian government of failing its duty of care to protect him and asking for him to be set free. full story

These two criminal governments are so smug that they believe they are out of the International Criminal Justice System, while this may be true for the Americans since they never signed up for The Hague; not so for Howard and his ministers. If the will of the people is there, one day true justice will be served and it won't be on David Hicks.

The Sydney Morning Hearld is leading the chorus today with this blog entry from Matthew Moore.

Labor does Wedge No.2 for 2007

Childcare is a hot button issue that the conservatives just can't get right, their ideology just won't let them. Deep down they still think women should be bare foot, pregnant, and at home. Not active members of the workforce. So they cringe when ever forced to dish out of our treasury to pay for the "luxury" of childcare.

For millions of working mums, its a necessity and Labor have them pinned. Today the bluff was called:

Opposition families and community services spokeswoman Jenny Macklin said childcare was in crisis and the Government was "out of touch'' with parents' needs by claiming that up to 127,500 childcare places were available across Australia last month.

Australia's largest not-for-profit childcare provider, KU Children's Services, also said the Government's attempt to allay fears of drastic shortages and lengthy waiting lists was based on rubbery figures.

"They are certainly misleading parents,'' Ms Macklin said.

"What we know, talking to parents, is that thousands of parents are desperate for a childcare place.

"They can't find them and they're being told today by the Howard government there are plenty of places.'' full story

The Government's response was simple to restate the misleading numbers again, and call Labor and the independent childcare provider liars. A bully technique straight out of "genius" US and now out of a job Bush adviser Karl Rove:

Acting minister for families and community services John Cobb rejected Ms Macklin's claims the figures were misleading.

"Jenny Macklin's suggestion that there might be vacancies in Tamworth but not Sydney is trite. And wrong,'' Mr Cobb said.

So THERE!

Thank God I Didn't Bite

Earlier this morning Ultranaut reported on the new IR policies of Labor. We skipped the sourced story about a mandated 38 hour work week, mainly because it sounded implausible and also a dumb policy for the workers party, after all a lot of labors supporters get the cream in their pay from overtime and penalties. This particular editorial decision seems to have paid off, i won't do a loser roll of who got it wrong (its been quickly cleaned up online anyway), but here is the refute in case the MSM original report's upset you:

LABOR has refused to promise regulating to protect the 38-hour working week, with the party's industrial relations spokeswoman Julia Gillard saying she was not in the business of heavy-handed regulation.

Ms Gillard, the party's Deputy Leader, said a report that Labor was seeking to enshrine the 38-hour working week was not the truth of the party's policy. full story

"Jesus Christ, help us, oh Lord. F---!"

No I'm not try to offend the Christian minority! But someone is! This phrase as apparently heard during the very educational, sorry sick and perverted "Mayday: Head On Collision." Which aired last night. It went on for 5 minutes before Channel Seven sensibly went to a commercial break. partial story hear the audio on mp3 see it on youtube thanks to metroblogging melbourne

The same phrase has been heard in the lawyers office's at Seven too as they try to work out a response to the multitudes of complaints they
will have to respond to. I must say either they have bought extremely cheap equipment, are not using back up protocols, or have loose security at their master control to let this kind of thing go to air, and to let it go to air for 5 f___ing! minutes! What were their technical staff listening to, Channel 31! This is a truly a strange stuff up, I just wish the phrase repeated over and over was more like:

"Mayday: We are headed towards an abyss by neo-con politicans that want to bring on a man made rapture" but i guess "Jesus Christ, help us, oh Lord. F---!" is close enough

CNNNNNNNNNNnnnnnmmmmmzzzzzzzzz

7 aren't the only ones making major gaffes - CNN is in the hot seat for what some blogs including the worlds biggest the Daily Kos (link) are considering not all that accidental.

The capitation should have read:

Where's Osama?

Obama is a US Senator who is one of the hot contenders for the Democratic Presidential nomination in 2008. He's the one Hillary is having nightmares over. And he's far more sexier.

CNN have apologized, the damage control sending this to Raw Story (link) who picked up the error:

"I just want to make a correction, an apology... for what we did yesterday. In 'The Situation Room,' we had a bad graphic," Blitzer Host said via CNN's public relations staff. "We were doing a piece on the hunt for Osama Bin Laden in this new year 2007. Unfortunately, instead of saying "where is Osama," it said "where is Obama." I'm going to be calling Senator Barack Obama to make a personal apology."

He'd want to, Obama has a good chance of being the next President, and Wolf Blitzer ain't likely to be on top of Obama's lists after this "accident". Some believe a campaign to link Obama with the radical Islamic agenda (which Obama is not associated with in any way) is being carried out. On the other hand, as I have found from years hanging around media types, it is usually no conspiracy just incompetent's. Once again I refer you to Channel 7's woes.

Graduates must have 2 years experience

If no-one wants to hire you fresh out of school, how the hell are you ever going to get that magical 2 years experience?

Well I have worst news for unemployed Australians, while we might have a "Skills Shortage", a study today points out just how bad it is.

TWO-THIRDS of jobs created under the Howard Government have needed a university degree as a prerequisite. Since 1996, jobs requiring a university degree or higher increased by 42 per cent, while Australian undergraduate enrolments increased by less than 5 per cent, an analysis by the Parliamentary Library has revealed."full story

Blimey! what the hell are all these professionals doing, and if we are only producing 5% but need 42% where do we find the 37% or are they just good liars on their CVs?

Well you'll be happy to know we are importing them, and labor have found an interesting way to attack this issue (which can get a little too close to racial discrimination if your not careful).

"Labor's spokesman for the Service Economy, Small Business and Independent Contractors said ... We shouldn't be bludging on the education systems of other countries to meet all the growth in our needs for university graduates."

Today's Top Five Mass Media News Stories

Big Boat - Big Men - With Small

... well at least that's what I have heard. ...... should we move on!

The US Military sends another aircraft carrier into the Gulf. Picture Below.

And why does a big boat with big men need to go to the gulf, is it Iraq, is it a bird, no.... its

a warning to Syria and Iran and to give commanders more flexibility in the region. full story
What THE?

Last time I checked the US was not at war with Syria or Iran, they have not indicated that they would like to take military action, they haven't put a case to the UN.

"he he" and no one has suspected thi
s evil plot, to provoke Iran in to a war by baiting them with big military toys, arresting their citzens and playing war games off their shoreline. We no one has noticed apart from the fucking Whole World. Including the Iranians and the Syrians! see earlier post

Her Majesty Requests You Give Free Passage ....

Thats what it says in every Australian Passport.

So while their happy to have Australian troops help out in the Civil War they started in Babylon they still won't give us back, David Hicks. A guy who went to fight in a war that had nothing to do with either Australia or the United States until 911. A guy who never fired a shot at an American or an Australian, and a guy who knew nothing about the plot on the WTC.

But for some reason Bush and the rest of his egomaniac's at the White House want to make an example of him. They have returned all of the UK's Detainees from Gitmo, but apparently Her Majesty of Great Britain and the Commonwealth is not the same person as Her Majesty of Australia.

Mental Note: for Australians (Canadians and New Zealanders you might want to as well), mention to every American that our Queen is actually the same Queen of the UK, I know she doesn't live here but she visits now and again.

So while "The United States has no better friend than Australia", "The United States is better friends with the UK". And you know that makes sense, it takes 5 hours to fly from London to Washington, it takes at least 28 hours to make the same trip from Canberra.

So in a futile attempt to make Australia's closet ally see sense the following is taking place during the parliamentary break:

LABOR and the Australian Democrats are seeking Federal Government support for a combined political tour of the US military prison at Guantanamo Bay, where David Hicks has been held without trial for five years.

Two senators from the Adelaide man's home state, Democrat Natasha Stott Despoja and Labor's Linda Kirk, want Liberal MPs included in the delegation.

Fat chance that Howard will allow one of his team upset the commander in chimp , I mean chief, no i meant chimp , I'm standing by that decision, even if the supreme court of the US disagrees i'll just write some new laws which make me the commander in chimp now piss off:

Senator Kirk said the group would ask to visit David Hicks — who next Thursday will have spent five years at the military facility on Cuba .... Senator Stott Despoja said Hicks' detention was a breach of the rule of law that should be challenged by Liberal ministers. full story

IR a no brainer. Lets put it out! and lets get inside Howard' Head

Rudd and Gillard, Labor's new dream team, are back from their Christmas New Years vision quest (that followed the laughable "listening tour") and have put some policy on the table. Everyone yell hooray for some IR policy, that looks like it was worked out on a napkin at the pub, but anyway here goes:

■Abolishing Australian Workplace Agreements.

■Enshrining collective bargaining in workplaces where most employees want it.

■Requiring employers and workers to bargain in good faith.

■Protecting workers from unfair dismissal.

■Restoring an independent umpire to help fix disputes.

■Abolishing employer greenfields agreements at new work sites.

■Restoring decent minimum employment standards. full story

You'd think that even the Liberal Party might consider that the whole unfair dismissal business is a BIG LOSER for them (not to be confused with the Biggest Loser a TV show which is even less thought through than the Liberal Parties Workchoice Legislation).

Whats worse for a Federal Party? Losing the Lower Chamber or Winning the Upper Chamber. We go into Mr Howards head and pick up the following internal rambling

"Damn why didn't Australians vote for a hung Senate, so that stupid bit of policy never became Law. I use to love the Senate, it stopped all the really unpopular promises I made to those godless corporate benefactors of mine from actually getting up. I used to be able to say sorry Mr huge corporate boss thanks for all that money you gave at the last election but I couldn't get that law you wanted passed because of that stupid old man from Tasmania who has control of the Senate, and theres that fat bloke from Queensland, oh he's dead now I think ...." ahh you get the picture.

Howard Shaver Challange - It's 12 Billion times bigger than yours :P

Despite the treasurer Peter Costello announcing a predicted surplus of almost $12 billion this financial year, today as Australian's work out how they are going to pay off the credit cards (remember 10% of that is GST), John Howard is slashing the budget. Now close your eyes and think about what would be the one thing you wouldn't cut if you had 12 billion to play with.

Don't open them yet!

Ok, now lets see if you cut the same thing as Mr Howard:

A schools and science package! full story

Did you agree. NO! May I introduce you to our new course "How to be a heartless bastard with no concern for the education of Australian children" its free when you join the neo-con movement.*

No really to be fair he has his reasons:

The Prime Minister is determined that the budget should deliver a firm message of austerity to the Reserve Bank to forestall further interest rate rises. He also wants to preserve surplus funds in case the economy dips.full story

Ok so kiddies aren't going to learn about science, because Johnnie made a false promise at the last election that he was the only man who could keep interest rates at a low level, even though they have gone up, and up and up since the last election. And also he's worried about a slow down.

ECONOMISTS IN THE ROOM YOU ARE ALLOWED TO THROW YOUR ARMS IN THE AIR AND MAKE CHICKEN NOISES AS YOU READ THIS.

Because you see you "Mainstream" Economists don't understand Howardomics, probably because your school couldn't afford to teach you. You see Howard thinks that the reserve bank are out to get him and if the economy slows down then they will raise interest rates to slow it down even further so Howard will look even worst and inflation will spiral out of control coz some kids got to learn about physics at a public school (no fullstops intended you can start breathing again now).

So why does Howard pretend to be a economic dummy - because (and if this was a TV Show a really blazing graphic would come on the screen, rotate in 3D, and the words would say "The Politics Of FEAR!!!") .. yes well .. because he is trying to scare you. And the Tory's game plan to beat Rudd is now on the table.

How does a stupid neurotic computer like me know the economy is slowing and Howard's fears are bs, the same reason I know about the surplus, the Treasure told me. Thats right Howard's man at the com! . full story

Here are some more area's where the government wont spend the extra 12 billion or so they will steal from you this year

"Health, welfare, indigenous policies, agriculture and industry."

"Mr Howard and the Government's senior economic team have already effectively ruled out across-the-board tax cuts in the budget. Instead, the Government will focus on spending in areas that will not fuel inflation, such as superannuation.

As it seeks to end Kevin Rudd's honeymoon, the Government will be emphasising its economic management credentials. Mr Costello is under pressure to deliver a tight budget with healthy surpluses - rather than engage in a reckless spending spree. "full story

Will the Australian people fall for that old trick again. Think in your head a whinny voice going something like this from Howard's mouth "They just spend spend spend, they left a big black hole last time, we are the only government responsible enough to manage the countries finances" and you get the picture for the next election debate. And no tax cuts in the next budget, so they can be used as a bribe at the next election.

Labor on other hand will have, Iraq, Child Care, Affordable Education, The Environment, The Nuke Debate to name a few issues to wedge Conservative voters and with Rudd looking more Howard than Howard, Howard is well .... Stuffed. Now who was that political adviser who said to John last week "Just go in front of the cameras and say - "I wouldn't mind living next door to a nuclear reactor"... oh and try to look like you mean it, say something like "NO Really!" when you get blank stares from the reporters"

*free only after you give away care for your fellow man, otherwise know as universal love and about the only thing actually worth something in the long run. If you can read this you don't need glasses, but fyck geel i fo.

Australian's all let us rejoice...

...for we are all pimples on the backside of America.

Hey its not my idea... wish i had though of it though. No on a slow political news day in Australia its from Paul Kent at the Daily Terror, i mean Telegraph.

"COVERAGE of the reaction to Saddam Hussein's death around the world has revealed Australia as, politically speaking, little more than a pimple on the backside of America. No beneficial purpose, but along for the ride all the same."

Howard's favorite newspaper (because it always wrote really nice things about him) has turn NASTY!

"It has also revealed the depth of Prime Minister John Howard's adopted role as George W Bush's lapdog, to this country's great embarrassment." full comments

Now I can see Johnnie "woof woof" Howard canceling his subscription to Rupert's Telegraph at about 9a this morning, and at 10am its a call to Murdoch's Melbourne tabloid to stop the early morning air freight copy getting to Kirribilli house - this from Ian McPhedran

"THE nauseating execution of Iraq's former dictator, Saddam Hussein, is a headache of migraine proportions for John Howard and his allies in the "coalition of the willing". Australian troops will face a fresh front in a campaign that is becoming increasingly difficult and dangerous by the day."

Oh but it gets better (or worse depending if your a neo-con or not if you are may i recommend a paracetamol tablet and if symptoms persist see a FUCKING SHRINK because you are not normal, you are crazy) slow breathing ultranaut - inhale - hold it - exhale. On with the Show ...

"Foreign Affairs Minister Alexander Downer, who delights in labelling opponents of the war as Saddam appeasers, put a positive spin on the execution...He also finally articulated the key reason for the Coalition's 2003 invasion of Iraq as being "the evil nature of his rule"."

Oh and it gets even even better ... American readers maybe shocked to know that this is appearing in a newspaper owned by the same man who runs the "Fair and Balanced if your a complete lunatic" Fox News Channel!

"There was no mention of weapons of mass destruction."

Um Maybe coz there wasn't any!

If only someone could mention this to fox news, since it comes from within their own company maybe they might get back in touch with reality. Their email address is Comments@foxnews.com

Actually Ian McPhedran has summed up just how bad the Iraq challace is for John Howard and the Government, just 1 digger death in Iraq could ignite a huge voter blow back according to his editorial (that's an op-ed if your from fox news and have had this story emailed to you by someone clicking on the above link). Bangkok New Years Bombings - Theories Please

Stumbled across this thanks to whatreallyhappened.com

The government (a military dictatorship which apparently doesn't warrant an invasion by Bush, see its a GOOD dictatorship) says the people opposing them are responsible (well they would say that) and not the current muslin insurgency from the south, this blog (while strangely titled after the Merovigian- I did like the matrix too) gives a false flag theory (i didn't know what that meant until i looked it up here) about what happened that one night in Bangkok (shit now i can't get that song out of my head).

"The Authorities in Bangkok were also immediately sure this had nothing to do with the Muslim insurgency in the south of the country, before any substantial investigation had taken place. We don't want the people getting “off message”. No the official word is these bombs were planted by forces opposed to the coup." full story

Nice also to see that one of Bangkok's more famous tourists attractions enjoyed! a happy ending .. i mean new year.

"The most striking thing about New Years Eve in Bangkok was despite the Bombing Bloodbath, just around the corner "Pad Pong" the Sex Bar lined Market Place in Silom was opened for business, packed with party revelers and its usual trade of men looking for cheap Asian intimacy."

Even graffti artist kids better watch out, while the police even admit that they aren't connected to the bombings they could get more than a slap on the wrist. This from Tuesdays Bangkok Post.

"A police source said yesterday that the sprayed characters had been spotted on the walls of many communities in Bangkok before the explosions, and they believed the graffiti was the work of teenage gangs attempting to scare the public... any youths found spraying the letters would be charged with provoking public panic."full story

US Invades Iran - HUH! Biggest News Story in 2006

Hey it never happened, but for Britain's Telegraph Newspaper this was there most viewed page in 2006 ...

"Strategists at the Pentagon are drawing up plans for devastating bombing raids backed by submarine-launched ballistic missile attacks against Iran's nuclear sites as a "last resort" to block Teheran's efforts to develop an atomic bomb." full story

The report also mentioned the minor detail that TEN THOUSAND COULD DIE!!! Oh and what else was there..... yeah thats right NUKES.

People! Bush seriously wants to nuke Iran, this latest "surge" of troops into Iraq is not about Iraq, its about having a forward force to invade Iran, partically the nice little bit next to Iraq and Kuwait. Have a look at the map below. note where the oil is. No need to take out the whole of Iran, just that little corner next to Iraq will do the job nicely, oh and some bunker buster nukes for their "WMD Factories"
